Baby boy abandoned in Emergency Room

A baby boy said to be several months old and who appeared to be malnourished was yesterday afternoon abandoned by his mother in the Emergency Room area of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Stabroek News was told that some time after 1 pm, the woman entered the hospital with the baby. Soon after she asked a woman who was sitting in the waiting area to hold the infant so she could go to a shop nearby and purchase something. She left and never returned.

This newspaper was informed that after the woman failed to return, the matter was reported to the nurse on duty who in turn made a report at the hospital’s police outpost.

The baby is at present being cared for in the paediatric ward of the medical institution.
