A 22-year-old cane-cutter accused of robbing another man and using violence was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Rocky Jaipaul called ‘Monkey’ of De Willem Squatting Area, West Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery with violence and was remanded to prison by Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.

It is alleged that last Sunday he robbed Rajendra Seeram of a gold chain valued at $70,000 and immediately before, during and immediately after he made use of personal violence against the complainant.

Police Prosecutor Sherwin Matthews objected to bail and stated that the defendant had been convicted of a similar offence before.

Jaipaul will return to court next Tuesday at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
