Rain alert

The Hydrometeorological Service of the Ministry of Agriculture says that the current level of rainfall is expected to continue for several days and farmers and residents in low-lying areas are being urged to take the necessary precautions.

An advisory from the Agriculture Ministry yesterday said that the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority is working with all regional neighbourhood democratic councils to ensure that all pumps are working and sluices and kokers are opened on time. The ministry’s hotline numbers are 223-7291, 225-8310 and 227-5049.

December/January rains were responsible for the Great Flood in 2005 and serious flooding in 2006.
