A man who admitted to a charge of threatening behaviour was placed on $20,000 bail or an alternative of 12 days imprisonment when he appeared at the Blairmont Court yesterday.

The court heard that on November 20 at Number 28 Village, Floyd “Shaggy” Usher threatened Linden Carmichael.

In presenting the facts of the case, Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Satrohan Dayaram informed Magistrate Geeta Chandan that the defendant was in a yard when he and Carmichael had a misunderstanding.

He said the defendant had a cutlass and threatened to chop the complainant who became afraid and ran away and made a report to the police.

Attorney-at-law, Joel Persid Edmond stood up for Usher “as a friend of the court” and informed the magistrate that he is familiar with him (Usher) and that he is mentally unstable. He said the man is not violent but when he is in “some mood he would make open remarks to the wind”.

Asked what he wanted to say, Usher responded, “your worship I was in the yard and he was throwing [faeces] on me and ah tell he ah gon chop he. I would apologize but I did not do the act [chopping).”

He further told the magistrate “ah don’t have money so ah thank the court for giving me the time in jail.”
