The Mayor and City Council is reminding all persons who intend to slaughter cows for the Eid-ul-Adha celebrations that the meat must be examined and certified by the officers of the Municipal Abattoir since it would be distributed to the public. In a press release, the Council said it is important that trained Meat and Food Inspectors determine the meat’s wholesomeness since it is responsible for ensuring that meat that is consumed by the public is free from tuberculosis and other infectious diseases.

The Council said an inspector must also be present at any masjid where the animals will be slaughtered. It said for the festive season the abattoir will be open from December 17 to 21 from 6 am to 4.30 pm and on Christmas Eve Day it will be open for business from 5 am to 10 am. To make arrangements for an officer to certify carcasses for the Eid holiday persons are advised to call telephone numbers 227-2131 or 226-3700.
