Man repairing truck crushed to death

Amelia’s Ward resident, Quincy Mc Lean or Quincy Thomas called ‘Kel’ was killed almost instantly on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway following an accident on Monday night.

Reports are that the 23-year-old father of one was at the time in the vicinity of Kairuni on the highway fixing his father’s canter truck when tragedy struck. The incident occurred around 11 pm yesterday. Stabroek News understands that Quincy left home to help his father who was stuck on the highway after the truck he was driving encountered mechanical problems. Reports are that the truck was parked with both hazard lights flashing. The dead man’s mother, Mavis Mc Lean, told Stabroek News that she had spoken to her husband hours before the accident and didn’t bother to call him every hour which she would normally do as she was not feeling well. The woman said when she last spoke to her husband he told her that he was in Linden doing drop-offs. This newspaper understands that while on the highway Quincy was under the canter truck which was parked facing south when a speeding car collided with the truck from behind. Reports stated that after the car hit the truck the driver who was in the front seat was tossed into nearby bushes and a popping sound was heard from under the truck.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the Linden Hospital Complex Hospital and sent away. Checks later revealed that Quincy’s head had been crushed after being run over by the truck’s back wheel. Quincy was pronounced dead on arrival at the Linden Hospital complex. The driver of the car is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
