Four extra generating sets up and running – GPL

The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) says four mobile power generating sets imported from the USA are up and running and can provide for the seasonal high demands.

A press release from the company said as of Thursday, four of the five sets have been installed including the set that has been established at the Versailles, West Demerara station. The company said there is now enough power in the Demerara inter-connected system for the season.

GPL said the situation is the same in Berbice where six megawatts of power have been commissioned, successfully, from the Skeldon Sugar Modernisation Project and added to the Berbice grid.

Meanwhile, GPL reiterates that there is still “the absolute need for every consumer of electricity to practise energy conservation.” The company said as long as the price for fossil fuels on the international market remains high “and once GPL has to spend more than 80 percent of its monthly revenue to purchase fuel for the power stations” consumers should conserve.
