Torani back on Berbice crossing

Much to the relief of Berbicians, the MV Torani which was in dry dock for a few months returned to ply the Rosignol to New Amsterdam route last Monday. The ferry is working along with the MV Makouria.

The pontoon, MB Sandaka had been standing in for it. Passengers said when the boat and the pontoon were working schedules were not kept. They looked forward for an improved service with the return of Torani but they told this newspaper “it is the same old story.”

On Friday this newspaper was aboard the Torani when it left the Rosignol stelling around 8:30 am. It stopped midstream for about half hour for the Makouria to leave the NA stelling and took another half hour to moor. After it was finally moored the gantry door in the upper deck apparently got stuck. The sailor took more than five minutes to open the door but by then some of the passengers had decided to use the lower deck. Commuters commented that the ferries should leave the stellings simultaneously.
