Hope is what Guyana needs – GAWU

Hope as demonstrated in the birth of the Christ Child overcomes suffering and is also what Guyana needs to motivate plans, action, participation and progress, the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) said in a Christmas message. The union said it recognizes the multi-religious diversity of the society, adding that Christmas has a pervasive outreach touching all races, cultural groups and even religious persuasions.

According to GAWU, most Guyanese today find reasons to be part of the Christmas observance whether Christian adherent participant in the nativity or Hindu or Muslim just refurbishing for the year-end.

The union said it has noted observations that the story of the birth of Christ symbolizes who the poor and dispossessed can be turned away, rejected because of their condition; how the rich and powerful can be accommodated.

“However, that child was born in the humble surroundings of the ordinary peoples provides Christian and all like-minded mankind with hope. It is GAWU’s hope that Christmas 2007 is celebrated in security, good cheer to all Guyanese and with the happiness and goodwill that must welcome the new year of 2008”, the union added.
