GWI explains low pressure in parts of city

The transition from old transmission lines to new lines is the cause of residents of some parts of the city experiencing low water pressure and this should be resolved by mid-January, according to the Guyana Water Inc (GWI).

In a release yesterday, GWI said that residents of North La Penitence, East La Penitence, East and South Ruimveldt, Tucville and surrounding areas may be experiencing low water pressure as a result of the transition. According to the release the project is being undertaken through the Georgetown Water and Sewerage Rehabilitation Programme 11 which is funded by the Inter-American Develop-ment Bank and the government and it is seeks to upgrade the water system in several of the mentioned areas. GWI said that currently the old and new lines are being fed simultaneously which has caused a reduction in the water pressure.

“Our efforts to transfer completely to the new lines are taking longer than anticipated. This exercise should be completed by mid January 2008,” the release stated.

The water company said it is aware of the inconvenience caused due to the exercise but urged its customers not to damage their service connections since such acts can lead to further problems.

The level of service will be significantly improved once the transfers are completed, the water company promised.

It urged residents to contact its customer call centre on 227-8701 for further information.
