Guyana/Brazil friendship society formed

A group of Guyanese and Brazilian businessmen and others have formed a Guyana/Brazil Friendship Society, which was registered as a duly incorporated non-profit company in September 2007.

The body, called the Brazilian Association of Guyana (BAG) Inc, was formed with the objective of promoting the interest and opportunities of Brazilians in Guyana and Guyanese in Brazil in areas of education, commercial, cultural and other business ventures, BAG member Everall Franklin told Stabroek News.

Franklin noted that a similar sister organization is being formed in Brazil with similar objectives as the one already registered in Guyana.

According to Franklin, Guyanese are already interacting with business interests in Brazil, which promise to offer tremendous opportunities to both countries.

Association member Paul Hardy has done extensive work to bring major Brazilian and international investors to Guyana, Franklin said, adding that the association is confident of the government’s support of its main objective of assisting in the realization of opportunities for Guyana and Brazil.

He said that BAG plans to formally launch the association in December 2007 when it would also host a high level Brazilian delegation to enhance its work.

Meantime, office space is being renovated to accommodate the association and a membership drive is planned, he added.
