Parts of the city have become garbage dumps

Dear Editor,

It is really painful to see and smell various parts of the city. Let me name a few places that should be taken care of. Just today I drove past the forty one bus stop (can’t be called a bus station or park). The smell of urine was so repulsive that I wondered what foreigners passing there would think. I thought of foreigners because there were many locals going about their business while others stood around unware, dead to scent and wrong and right.

Some months ago Mandela avenue at the back of the Botanical Gardens, just across the road not far from the Chinese embassy became a garbage dump overnight.

There can be seen all sorts of broken equipment, and bags with decaying produce etc, evident by the stench.

City Hall staff have been protesting almost every year for increase in pay. The general public is asking where is the work that is done by city hall, especially now that we have private garbage collection agencies, hats off to them.

It is my belief that most if not all the members of staff of that organisation should do the honourable thing and retire hurt. Allow persons with the skills and heart to do the job. Happy New Year.

Yours faithfully,

D.Cuffy Jr
