Dear Editor,

I’m interested in finding out what plans GT&T may have with reference to internet services for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup. I’m a potential provider of the bed and breakfast service who would love to ensure my potential client(s) have high speed internet access. However, at present, like most Guyanese I’m using a Dial-up connection. For me to purchase additional dial-up connection(s) for my potential client(s) to use on their laptops would be considered unwise, since besides the additional costs for the service, one has to consider that each potential laptop will require reconfiguration for this service.

Can GT&T look into the feasibility of granting short-term leases to persons who wish to provide high speed internet connectivity for their clients. Maybe this short term can be a period of about 3 months, leading up to and after the world cup, since it would be quite impractical to do this just for a few weeks.

It would be very much appreciated if you can seek a comment from GT&T on my concern.

Yours faithfully,

N Alleyne

Editor’s note

We sent a copy of this letter to GT&T for any comments they may wish to make and received the following response from their Public Relations Officer (ag) Mr Oscar Clarke:

“Thank you for forwarding the letter from N. Alleyne seeking advice on the provision of Internet facilities to Bed and Breakfast providers.

GT&T does have a solution for such requests which will be treated on a case by case basis depending on the type of internet access required.

As such, Mr Alleyne and any other Bed and Breakfast provider wishing to have internet access for their customers/tenants are asked to contact the Supervisor Business Services located at 79 Brickdam or call telephone #226-7404.”
