Why no apology for this error?

Dear Editor,

A happy, beautiful and productive 2007 to you and all at Stabroek News.

I read with some interest the letter captioned “Our Human Services Department gave this wheelchair” (07.01.05), which contained Ms Volda Lawrence’s correction of your earlier report which had given the impression that the presentation had come from the Ministry of Human Services rather than the Human Services Department of the PNCR. My interest was the more piqued by the apparent care taken in the Editor’s note, not to say “Sorry about the error”. Is one to suppose that the PNCR is so soundly despised in the corridors of Stabroek News that those concerned would rather look ungracious than to be observed regretting such a human error.

Of course, the people at the Ministry of Human Services appear to have missed that erroneous report altogether and so could not put your medium right on the subject. Or is it that someone there was quietly thanking Santa Claus for doing that bit of benevolence on behalf of the ministry?

Yours faithfully,

Wallace A. Jordan

Editor’s note

Our editor’s note sought to explain that we had reported what the relative had told us, which turned out to be wrong.
