It is heartening to see the clean-up happening in GT.

Guyana several centuries ago was a pioneer in upkeep of its towns. I quote an article about New Amsterdam:

“The little township was a pioneer in several by-laws; it boasted the first sanitation regulations on record (no privies near the public path, drains to be dug and places kept weeded”.

It would seem that in those days the citizens were responsible for say the area between their front fence and the road and the drain too.

In most developed countries residents own their own garbage cans (usually large, plastic and uniform size) and put them out on a certain day for garbage collection. This facilitates pick up. Anything left on the ground is not picked up unless a special arrangement is made.

This would greatly help the residents of GT and any other town or village as their living circumstances would be better and the area would look better to boot.
