Dear Editor,

I am glad that at least one person has raised a concern that I have about what appears to be part of a much wider scheme by some set of persons in Guyana.

The ICC World Cup brochure must have been prepared by the Guyanese organizers of ICC World Cup 2007. I am rather surprised to learn that we now advertise to the world a distinct Indian heritage.

This term suggests that our Indian heritage is distinguishable, special and perhaps above all others.

Of course some sections of our media proclaim this daily. This statement in an important brochure must have been scrutinized by senior persons involved with the World Cup and the government hierarchy.

As Guyanese we must all be proud of our heritage, but to so blatantly advance one group is counter to our motto of One People, One Nation, One Destiny.

The architects of the article should offer an explanation, if I am not to suspect, as I put in my full page advertisement that the government’s aim is for hegemony, if not ethnic and political domination.

It is well known that the best way to control our people is to send subliminal messages as to who is superior and who is inferior. I hope that this is not part of a wider campaign, practiced so well by our former imperial masters. The government must say publicly whether they support this concept. If not the booklet should be withdrawn immediately.

Yours faithfully,

Hamilton Green JP
