Some questions about the hotels at Providence

Dear Editor,

I wish to comment on the ‘bridge financing’ arrangement between (a) The Casique and Buddy’s Hotels on one hand and (b) the Government of Guyana on the other hand.

First when did the owners acquire the land at Providence for these hotels?

Secondly, when were the necessary approvals from the Neighborhood Democratic Council, the Central Housing and Planning Authority, the Fire Department and the Environmental Protection Agency obtained, how quickly?

Have loans been obtained from the commercial banks? On what legal basis did the President “advance” room rentals to these hotels? Are these advances adequately secured?

Yours faithfully,

A. Khan
