Sheep stolen from police station compound

Dear Editor,

A poor man was astonished to learn a few days ago that his ram sheep was stolen from the Suddie Police station compound which could well be regarded as the best place for safe keeping.

According to the owner, Andray Tappin of Adventure Village, Essequibo Coast, the animal with a market value of some $14,000 was impounded there overnight. He was prepared to pay the compulsory pound fee to regain possession of the sheep which could not be accounted for.

He believes that the sheep was stolen and will never be recovered.

But what is really puzzling to him is “who could have been so brazen to do so in the presence of the police”?

Out of sympathy, some sort of compensation should be given by the police to this man for having suffered this loss.

In the past, there was an enclosed pound building which was demolished without being rebuilt. Animals impounded now are less secure by being tied in the fenced compound just alongside the station building.

Stray cattle nuisance within the neighbourhood is escalating and in the absence of secure pound facilities, further problems will be inevitable.

Yours faithfully,

Baliram Persaud
