Dear Editor,

In the January 17, 2006 Kaieteur News article titled “Police presence likely on the streets until World Cup” the Guyana Police Force is reported as saying that since the heightened patrol began on November 15, there was a significant decline in murder, armed robberies statistics etc. and that “there was only one reported murder in the city, and this occurred on November 28, 2006 when 56 year old businesswoman Ashwini Doodnauth was shot dead outside her Pike Street, Kitty home.”

According to my knowledge, when a murder or a robbery is committed, the police would approach the victims of this tragic incident and a statement detailing the ordeal is recorded. Based on the statement, a subsequent in-vestigation follows. This is usually the procedure all over the world. With this in mind, I would like to highlight to the public that from November 28, 2006 the date that my wife, Ashwini Doodnauth was murdered to the present, two months, no policeman has approached me, Tanieram Doodnauth who was present at the time of the murder for any statement or report.

I would like to ask the Commissioner of Police what is usually the murder investigation procedure in Guyana?

Yours faithfully,

Tanieram Doodnauth
