Dear Editor,

Since writing our last letter to Stabroek News, we read your report on the torture of two young men from Buxton. These men have made serious accusations against individuals in the security forces of Guyana.

These men are therefore open to retaliation from anyone who would wish these actions to remain unrecord-ed. We have picked up allegations that so called phantom forces made a recent attempt to harm one of the young men. The mere report shows where the society is….

This letter is to inform the public that we are taking the reports made by the young men seriously.

We are prepared to join with any other Guyanese persons to bring this matter to the courts in an effort to hold the alleged security offenders, others unknown and the Minister respectively, duly accountable and placed on record.

We shall proceed once permitted by the young men, whether or not it is later claimed that they were wanted men.

We have always held, as the Guyana Constitution provides, that suspects are entitled to enjoy freedom from torture. We also hold that officials are entitled to a chance to defend their reputations.
