Mr Pitamber Persaud deserved an award

Dear Editor,

I was extremely happy to note that the Committee related to the Guyana Prize for Literature offered an award to Mr. Petamber Persaud in relation to his contributions to literature.

Mr. Petamber, in my opinion, is the only voice in Guyana that projects local literature and encourages.

I recall Mr. Petamber visiting me at the Cyril Potter College of Education to speak to me about possibilities of involvement in the literary field. Later, he communicated. I was impressed by his dedication to the development of local literature.

Mr. Petamber reminds me of men of humility that I met in my days when I was caught up in the world of poetry: Mr. Sheik Sadeek, Dr. A.J. Seymour, Mr. Cyril Kanhai, Mr. Cleveland Hamilton, Mr. Wordsworth McAndrew. These among others were, in my opinion, genuinely concerned about writers and local literature.

I wish Mr. Petamber Persaud the best in his endeavours.

Yours faithfully,

Krishna Nand Prasad
