I refer to Mr Allan Paul’s letter captioned “More musical promotions should be staged at the Providence Stadium” (07.11.14).

Mr Paul explains that his reason for stating this is that residents would not be affected by the “unrelenting noise from the boom-boom box between 8 pm and 3 am which is a thorough nuisance.” Obviously, to the best of his knowledge no persons live near the stadium or anywhere around to be so affected.

However, I would like to inform Mr Paul that there are hundreds of residents living in proximity to the stadium, myself included. There are houses on the southern side of the stadium all the way to New Providence, besides those across the road, where citizens have been living in peace and comfort over the years.

So far, there have been two musical events at the stadium and more recently the Guyana Music Festival. On all these occasions the noise was so deafening, the floors of the house vibrated and the windows rattled. I had to seek alternative accommodation as I could not sleep. These events produced music of an unbearably loud level not only on the actual days of the events, but two or three days before the events. The noise was so intense that I also called the police station.

So Mr Paul’s suggestion to have these events at the stadium will merely transfer the nuisance to another location. There is a law against noise nuisance and I would like to ask Mr Paul for his support in pressuring the Commissioner of Police to enforce the law. Then we would all be happy no matter where these events are held.
