Parents disconnected though nothing owing

Dear Editor,

Despite the fact that nothing is owing on the bills relating to my parents’ residence in the name of Laliram Persaud at Lot 9 Section ‘B’ Adventure which I pay it was most embarrassing to be confronted with a disconnection crew last Tuesday. No member of the household was approached by the crew to ascertain whether or not the bills had been paid.

The crew just severed the current from the line pole without verifying the payments.

My understanding is that the crew is being paid according to the amount of disconnections made and this is deliberately done to augment their income, much to the detriment of customers who are not in default.

With such a system in operation, the office cannot be exculpated for an administrative blunder by allowing payments to be made to the crew even for wrongful disconnections which inevitably would continue to cause problem to customers who do not owe.

But in the final analysis, it is the company that loses financially by having to pay the disconnection crew and then again assigning workers on the permanent staff to restore the current without a reconnection fee which is not applicable on bills that have already been paid.

Several other persons have also complained of being faced with the same predicament where their precious time and travelling money would have to be wasted to contact the office to rectify a problem through no fault of their own.

Yours faithfully,

Baliram Persaud
