ear Editor,

Much praise must be showered on the Government spending millions of dollars to upgrade the service at the Suddie Hospital.

But the protracted delay for the completion of the relevant works is worrying. More than a year has elapsed since the job being done by a private contractor from outside of the district was to be completed but for some time the workforce is at a standstill.

It was reliably learnt that repeated alterations had to be made on inside concrete work already done because of insufficient spacing to accommodate machines and other equipment that have to be installed. Obviously, the present state of disarray at the institution must be causing some discomfort in certain sections with even X-rays having to be done at Charity hospital at considerable expense and inconvenience to patients whenever the ambulance is not available.

Strangely enough, not a single official from the Ministry of Health nor the Regional Administration was able to shed any light on the situation.

On another issue, the substandard work of a different contractor was evident when two concrete trestles with several water tanks all of which were damaged collapsed in both the Suddie and Charity hospital compounds during the recent earth tremor.

Yours faithfully,

Baliram Persaud
