Founder of the Harpy Eagle Martial Arts Academy, Troy Bobb, copped three World Karate titles during a six-month campaign in the United States, recently.

Bobb displayed his skill in the 18-35 years old division, when he won the Kata, Musical Form and Kumite (sparring) events at the Karate Alliance 2006 World Championships in Dallas, Texas, from August 3-6, 2006.

Apart from winning the three events, the local third degree black belt placed second in the Team and Individual sparring events. He followed up his performance at the world championships at another event in Las Vegas.

“I had a team preparation in New Mexico after the world championships for the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association 8th annual world championships from October 21-22 in Las Vegas,” Bobb said.

He placed second in the Team Sparring and Individual Kata events in Las Vegas. He was also promoted to first Dan in Samurai (padded sword fighting) in October last year.

“After the Las Vegas meeting, I was with the US team preparing in California for the US nationals, March 28-29th, 2007,” he said, adding that he will also compete at the 2007 Ozawa Cup in the US.

Bobb, who returned to Guyana on Monday, said that fifth degree Black Belt, Rondell Sanders will be in Guyana with a 12-man team from the US to host an international Samurai seminar, grading examination and tournament.

He said that the event in Guyana is set for the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from the 17-18 of next month. Bobb departed Guyana for the US last July with financial assistance from Director of Sport, Neil Kumar.

In addition to Kumar, Bobb thanked the residents of Beterverwagting, Granville Park, BWIA and Carlton Dean.
