An all-round effort from captain Rawl Lewis enabled the Windward Islands to defeat a Rest Team by 120 runs in a specially arranged practice game at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground yesterday.

Batting first, Windwards made 215-8 from their 50 overs with Lewis making 52 from 57 balls with five fours and two sixes after being dropped early in his innings.

Lindon James and wicket-keeper Gary Matthews made 45 and 24 respectively.

James faced 70 balls and struck two fours and the same amount of sixes whilst Matthews faced 59 balls and struck one four in his unbeaten innings.

Bowling for the Rest Team, former national Under -19 fast bowler, Jeremiah Harris, took 3-37 including the prized scalp of West Indies opener Devon Smith, who was caught at the wicket after flashing loosely at a wide delivery.

Smith faced 10 balls without scoring.

Dennis Squires offered considerable support to Harris with 2-28 whilst skipper Rayon Griffith 1-25, national Under-19 all rounder Kellon Carmichael, 1-26 and off-spinner, Sauid Drepaul, who took a blistering return catch from Lewis ended with 1-34.

At their turn at the crease, the Rest Team folded against the pace/spin attack employed by Lewis, who marshalled his forces well.

The Rest Team were dismissed for 95 from 28.1 overs with only Jamal Hinckson, 37, and Shawn De Souza, 22, offering resistance.

Hinckson faced 57 balls and struck three fours and cleared the ropes once, whilst De Souza struck four fours off the 39 balls he faced. Lewis led from the front with a controlled spell of right-arm, leg-spin bowling to take 3-15 from five overs. He received support from Nelroy Pascal, who bowled with raw pace and accuracy to take 2-13 from four overs.
