Current national women’s champion, Christine Sukhram, warmed up for the Guyana Open Golf championships due in two weeks time with a stunning win in last Saturday’s New GPC Inc. sponsored Medal Play tournament at the Lusignan Golf Course.

Christine, who was outstanding in the 2006 Guyana Open, recorded a net 69 playing with a handicap 6 and a gross 75 to capture first place from a field of 21 golfers after placing second in the Guyoil Medal Play two Saturdays ago.

Second place went to Ronald Bulkan with a handicap 22, gross 92 and net 70, while Alfred Mentore with a handicap 9, gross 81 and net 72 finished third.

A H. and L Kissoon Ltd. will sponsor Saturday’s tournament which starts at 12:30 h.

The Guyana Open will take place from November 17 and 18 at the Lusignan Course and it is expected to attract both local and foreign golfers to the two-day tournament.

Current men’s champion 16-year old Avinash Persaud, who is currently training in Trinidad and Tobago, is due home shortly to defend his title.

Persaud recently won the Flow Millennium Lakers Golf championship in the twin-island republic.
