The eighth annual Diamond Mineral Water-50 mile cycle road race sponsored by Diamond Distillers Ltd. (DDL) will ride off from the Wales Police Station from 9am Sunday.

Competitors will proceed to Bushy Park, East Bank Essequibo, before returning to the Demerara Harbour Bridge for the finish.

The first six finishers will receive prizes while there will also be awards for the first three juniors, veterans and upright cyclists.

There will be eight prime prizes up for grabs.

Last year’s event was won by Warren Mc Kay in a time of two hours, four minutes and 41 seconds.

Marketing Assistant for DDL, Alana Johnson, will present the prizes to the respective winners.

Meanwhile on Saturday there will be an 11-race programme sponsored by Grace Foods International and Grace Chips.

The programme, which commences at 9am, will take place in the inner circuit of the National Park.

Apart from the feature event over 35-laps for schoolboys and novices, there will also be one 10 lap event for juveniles, three five lap events for upright cyclists and veterans over and under 45-years-of-age respectively, a three-lap event for boys’ 12-14-years old and four BMX cycle races for boys and girls.

Brands Manager, Wazim Alli will be on hand to present the prizes to the winning participants.

Both events have been organized by Hassan Mohamed, (M.S).
