Rose Hall U-19s whip Lower Corentyne Secondary

Rose Hall Town Pepsi U-19 team, led by a man-of-the-match performance from Troy Matheison, easily defeated Lower Corentyne Secondary School U-19s by 102 runs in the third annual George Trim Memorial Twenty20 match at the Area H ground, Rose Hall yesterday.

Matheison blazed a hurricane 41 (5×4, 2×6) as his side posted 167-6 from their 20 overs.

Mathieson and skipper Javed Mohammed who made 33 with three fours, put on 57 for the fifth wicket after Rose Hall Town had slipped from 62-1 to 85-4.

Earlier, Michael Felix struck a quick fire 40 (5×4; 2×6) in a first wicket stand of 62 with Shadiq Kudrath (13; 1×4).

Devindra Harilall took 3-16 from his four overs whilst there was a wicket each for Sharmindra Harilall, Yogeshwar Deonarine and Quincy George.

Lower Corentyne, in reply, were bowled out for 65 in 15 overs with only Devendra Pottaya (14) and Devindra Harilall (11) showing some resistance to the bowling of Matheison (2-7), Terrence Madramootoo (3-23), 12-year-old Shawn Pereira (2-14) and Lloydel Lewis (2-16).

At the presentation ceremony, organizing secretary of the Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar, Hilbert Foster, thanked the teams for participating stating that Trim was not only mayor for the Rose Hall Town for six years (71-77), but also a mentor and tutor to the citizen’s of the town prior to his death four years ago.

Devindra Harilall received a prize for being the best bowler whilst Pottaya was rewarded for being the best batsman on the losing team. Matheison was presented with a trophy for his efforts.
