Blairmont, Young Warriors record victories

The Berbice leg of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Carib Beer/Pepsi sponsored Twenty20 competition continued last Friday with six matches played in the two zones with the highlight being the innings of Sasenarine Sukhdeo (78), Keith Fraser (73), Peter Grimes (70), Anthony D’Andrade (67) and Farouk Hussain (62*).

Blairmont defeats Rose Hall

At Blairmont, Rose Hall Community Centre fell to a three-wicket defeat to the home team Blairmont Community Centre despite the batting efforts of Sukhdeo.

Taking first strike on winning the toss, Rose Hall, led by Sukhdeo 54 balls 78 (11x4s) made 154-7 from their 20 overs. Balram Samaroo contributed 39 against the bowling of Bissnarine Basdeo who took 3-21.

Blairmont, in reply, reached 156-7 in 19.4 overs with worthy contributions from Eon Abel 44 (4x4s; 1×6) and Karamdat Bissoondial 27. Romesh Munna took 2-18 for West Berbice.

Young Warriors trounce Police

At Cumberland, Young Warriors trounced Police by 10 wickets. Police won the toss and chose to take first strike and were bowled out for 90 off 16.4 overs.

Jerry Heyliger, 24, was the only batsman to offer resistance to the bowling of former national medium fast bowler Damodar Daesrath who took 3-10 and Charran Singh 2-10.

In reply, Young Warriors made 92 without loss in just 14 overs with Hussain 62 not out (11x4s; 1×6) and Waheid Edwards also unbeaten on 24.

Bermine triumphs by 31 runs

At Bush Lot, West Berbice defeated Bermine by 31 runs thanks mainly to the efforts of Keith Fraser, known more for his football skills.

He blasted 73 from 37 balls decorated with seven fours and four sixes to help his team post 171-6 from their 20 overs. Medium pacer Julian Moore took 4-33.

Bermine in reply were bowled out for 140 in 19.1 overs after being 48 without loss in six overs. Anthony D’Andrade led the batting with 67 (4x4s; 4x6s) whilst Berbice under-19 batsman Eugene La Fleur contributed 24. Krisendat Ramoo (4-11) and Fraser (2-23) did the damage for the victors.

Kildonan loses again

At Scotsburg, the home team Scotsburg United defeated Kildonan Sports Club by 11 runs. Batting first after losing the toss and rattled up 146-3 from their 20 overs with Grimes leading the way with his 24 balls 70 (8x4s; 3x6s). Clarence Beresford 34 and James Hart 20 offered worthy support to Grimes.

Kildonan were held to 135-8 in their 20 overs with Farouk Drepaul 50, Andrew Persaud 23 and Devendranauth Thakurdeen 20 being the only batsmen to offer resistance to the bowling of Hart 2-20 and Essequibo left arm orthodox spinner Robert Moore 2-24.

Port Mourant victors by nine wickets

Home team Port Mourant defeated Skeldon Community Centre by nine wickets at Port Mourant. After being asked to take first strike, Skeldon were bowled out for 80 off just 13.2 overs. Sherwin Murray led the batting with 51 whilst former Berbice under-19 spinner Rajiv Ivan took 3-10 and Roopnarine Ramgobin 2-2.

In reply, Port Mourant reached 84-1 from 13.3 overs with Ramgobin returning with the bat to make an unbeaten 43 and Mankarran Singh 24.

Rose Hall loses first match

At Rose Hall Town, Albion Community Centre defeated the home team Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar by eight wickets. Batting first on winning the toss, Rose Hall Town were restricted to 101-7 from their 20 overs. Troy Matheison (27) and Berbice discard Andre Percival 22 led the batting with national opener Sewnarine Chattergoon taking 2-21 bowling leg spin.

In reply, Albion made 102-2 from 14.4 overs with West Indies middle order batsman Narsingh Deonarine making an unbeaten 29. Guyana /Stanford 20/20 star Imran Khan made 26 whilst Chattergoon returned to score 24. Percival took both wickets to fall for 15 runs.

Meanwhile, the points standing at the end of that round reads: Zone A; Young Warriors 6; West Berbice 4; Blairmont 4; Bermine 4; and police and Rose Hall Community Centre 2 each. In zone B: Albion 8; Rose Hall Town Windies 6; Port Mourant 4, Scotsburg 3, Skeldon 1 and Kildonan 0.
