The Georgetown Super Eight divisions one and two knockout basketball tournament will resume this evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall with the remaining first round matches.

The tournament, which has been made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) and the Next Level Entertainment (NLE) group, took a nine-day break because of the unavailability of the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall which was being used to stage the Diamond Mineral Water-sponsored indoor international club hockey tournament.

Although the first round should have already been completed, the schedule was interrupted by an unexpected power outage which lasted for the majority of the evening.

As a result, all the games that had been scheduled for November 25 will be played this evening starting with a division three matchup between one of Georgetown’s oldest clubs, Eagles against Disciples, a Plaisance-based team.

A very competitive game is forecast between these two teams fighting to stay alive in the competition.

No one knows what to expect from the Disciples team whose roster may look very strange without shooting guard John Fraser, who has relocated to the Pacesetters and Dave Causeway who appears to be sitting this competition out.

In the second game of the evening the Bounty Colts will compete against the Beepat’s Scorpions while Court’s Pacesetters will meet the Legends in the final game of the evening.

There may be many surprises in the division-one matchups as many of the line-ups of the above listed teams have been affected by off season trades.

The Colts and Scorpions encounter looks to be a combination of youth and experience in both sides with both coaches trying out relatively new units on the floor.

While Colts can still rely on Kayode Murray, Kelvin Simon and the experienced Dane Kendall, Darren Gordon and Darren Thomas will surprisingly not appear in the Scorpions’ line-up.

The Pacesetters seem to be the least affected by off-season trades as their fundamental rotation four players in Stephon Gillis, Naylon Loncke, Royston Siland and Clement Brusche are still with the team.

They will be looking to stifle the likes of Randolph Murphy when they go up against the Legends in the final game of the evening.

Action in the GABA/NLE knockout competition will start tonight at 19:00h and will continue this week-end with heated semifinal matches starting on Friday evening.
