The body of a Parika farmer was discovered in his home on Wednesday afternoon bearing marks of violence.

Egbert Winston Schutin, 67, of Hyde Park, Parika, East Bank Essequibo was found lying on his back on the floor at the front door of his home. He was clad only in his undergarments and one of his legs and an arm appeared to have been broken.

Lerna Trotz, Schutin’s daughter told Stabroek News her father was a caretaker at the residence and he also farmed for a living. She said a post-mortem examination will be carried out today.

In a press release the police said they are investigating a suspected murder. They said Schutin lived alone in a one-flat building and was discovered by a neighbour who went to fetch water from a canal which is a short distance from the man’s home.

According to the police, a wound was visible below the left ear.

Schutin’s daughter told Stabroek News she spoke with her father last Wednesday. She said he visited his children occasionally and spent much of his time at the home where he died. His death came as a great shock to the family, she related.

She described him as a pleasant man and loving father. Schutin leaves to mourn four daughters, fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
