The Guyana Consulate in Barbados says it is hosting a meeting to allow Barbados institutions to inform Guyanese nationals working on the island about the new measures and policies that it has instituted.

Honorary Consul Norman Faria said nationals, particularly those using work permits, will be informed of the recently introduced measures and policies from several Barbados institutions when it hosts an outreach meeting tomorrow. According to a press release, Faria, who will chair the exercise, said the meeting is in no way related to the recent news reports about an alleged increase in crime among Guyanese nationals on the island. “The outreach meeting was planned for last year well before any of the media-driven allegations,” Faria reiterated. “The Guyana Consulate as a government mission is not in the business of giving succour to any charges about alleged crime among Guyanese,” he said.

Faria said resource persons from the immigration department, customs, national insurance scheme, trade unions, labour department and the police have been invited to give presentations at the meeting. The exercise is an opportunity for Barbadian institutions, including the Royal Barbados Police Force, to inform the nationals about the recently instituted procedures and to answer questions they may have the Consul said. The exercise will be hosted at the Barbados Workers Union auditorium Solidarity House in St Michael.
