Shaggy is coming

Grammy-winning, international recording artiste Shaggy is expected to perform for his local fans come December 16.

Shaggy, born Orville Richard Burrell in Jamaica, will headline the Mc Neal Entertainment ‘Beacharama’ concert, billed for Splashmin’s Fun Park.

Shaggy, famous for hits such as “Church Heathen”, “It wasn’t me”, “Angel” and others, has remained a favourite, especially in the dancehall/reggae arena, after more than a decade in the business.

According to one of the show’s promoters Michael Fung, other artistes expected for the event include Trinidadians Destra Garcia and Rikki Jai and Guyana’s own Natural Black.

Fung said also that there will be more local artistes since the promotion team came in for numerous criticisms for not having local artistes at the Inferno concert which featured Jamaicans Cham, Munga Honorable, and Brick and Lace, as well as US rapper Mims. Apart from Natural Black, Fojo, Malo and many others are to perform, Fung said.

This concert will coincide with Mingles Sound Machine’s 20th Anniversary, which is on December 9. Fung, who is also said to be responsible for the technical aspect of the show, said there will be two stages which will be used for the four bands expected. The Trinidadians will be backed by their own Atlantic band; Shaggy is expected to bring his own band; and Guyana’s Brutal Jammers band will lend support alongside Mingles. In addition, the Fusion Sound System will provide entertainment.

On the issue of security, Fung said this will be up to scratch, as it has been at all of their promotions. He said music lovers will be in for a treat since this show will covers a wide range of music.

Meanwhile co-promoters Rawle Ferguson and Kerwin Bollers said a total package for the December 16 event is $3,000, which will cover transportation, for those who need it, to and from Splashmin’s.
