Cop remanded on causing death by dangerous driving charge

Two months after he hit down and killed a 15-year-old cyclist at Mon Repos, the driver of a police ambulance was yesterday charged and remanded to prison.

Policeman Floyd Baird pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving when he appeared before Magistrate Melissa Roberson-Ogle at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on October 19, he caused the death of Denis Ewing Chow by driving motor van PHH 9108 in a manner dangerous to the public.

According to reports the policeman was proceeding along the road at a fast rate of speed when he collided with Chow, who was riding home to Mon Repos for lunch from the BV Secondary School.

Chow was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state and died some time later without ever regaining consciousness.
