Fish vendor remanded over unlicensed shotgun

Magistrate Fazil Azeez yesterday remanded to prison a fish vendor who allegedly had an unlicensed shotgun in his home when police searched it.

Shameer Isri, 45, of Zeeburg Embankment, West Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful possession of a firearm when he appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that last Sunday at the said location, Isri, without lawful authority, had in his possession a 16-gauge Steven single-barrel shotgun. Acting on information received, police searched the home and found the weapon. The defendant was informed of the offence committed, arrested and charged.

Isri was ordered to appear at court next Tuesday.
