TIN info can be entered online -147,585 numbers processed for individuals

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has established an online facility that allows employers to submit the information required for Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN) on behalf of their employees, according to a press release yesterday.

This facility is available on the GRA’s website, www.revenuegy.org and the release said the online applications are treated the same way as those in hardcopy form.

The GRA sends the TIN certificates via registered mail to the home or mailing addresses of the applicants. “However, persons who would have applied more than two months ago and have not received their certificates are encouraged to visit the Registry, GPO Building to obtain their number or call telephone number 225 4584,” the release said.

The GRA, explained that TIN is simply a unique computer-generated number that it allocates to each taxpayer whether they are an individual, a commercial business, a Government department, a public corporation, or a special body.

The TIN basically identifies taxpayers for the purpose of all their transactions, including their tax liabilities, with the GRA.

“Guyanese must be reminded that the TIN replaces previous numbers persons used when conducting business with the GRA, including the IRD number,” the release said.

“There are some mandatory fields on the application, shaded in grey, which must be filled in and the form must be signed to authenticate it. The failure to complete the form correctly will result in the application not being processed,” the GRA said.

The release said that the form can be dropped in the box at the GPO Building or submitted to the registry with some form of identification, for example, National Identification Card, Passport and National Insurance Scheme card.

The GRA said that to date, it has processed Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN) for 147,585 individuals and 6,068 companies while 23,840 are on hand to be processed.
