The number of deaths on the roadways yesterday rose when a man was hit and killed by a canter truck on the Waller’s Delight public road, West Coast Demerara.

Reports reaching Stabroek News are that the man whose name was given only as Narine was the victim of a hit and run accident and that he died on the spot.

Narine was walking along the public road some time after 6 pm when the truck hit him. It is unclear exactly which direction he was heading or which angle he was hit from.

The truck drove off after the collision and the police subsequently arrived on the scene and took the body to the West Demerara Regional hospital.

Police are continuing their investigations.
