Two men were on Wednesday remanded to prison by Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle after they were accused of breaking and entering Guyana Stores Limited and carting off nearly $2M in electronic items and sneakers.

Devon Clarke called Blackie, 20, of Lot 3 Fourth Street, Kingston and Odingo Edwards called `Donie’ of 2A Queen Street, Cummingsburg were not required to plead to the indictable charge of break and enter and larceny when they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Additionally Edwards has been accused of breaking into a scrap metal bond and stealing a quantity of copper wire. He was not required to plead to that offence.

It is alleged that the duo between November 13 and 14 last, broke and entered Guyana Stores Limited and stole 56 DVD players, a quantity of sneakers and ten clocks, together valued $1,891,705.

On this charge the duo is jointly charged with two others who have already made a court appearance.

Edwards has been charged jointly with Gary Hartman for the break and enter at the scrap metal bond. Hartman has already appeared before the court for this matter.

It is alleged that Edwards and Hartman between October 9 and 10 at Georgetown broke and entered the scrap metal bond of Noel Downer and stole $90,000 worth of copper wire.

Attorney-at-law Frank Fraser appeared in court on their behalf. He said that this is not the first time that Edwards has been charged with breaking into GSL. Counsel said that his client seems to be a target for the police every time there is a break-in at that particular store.

“Every time there is a breakage, they pick him up,” he said, adding that he had represented Edwards in another break and enter matter which was dismissed.

He asked the court to release his client on reasonable bail.

Police prosecutor Denise Griffith said that the duo had other matters in court, adding that if granted bail there is the likelihood that they will not return since the police had difficulty locating them.

The joint matter was adjourned to January 31 in Court Three while Edwards will have to appear in Court Six today in relation to the other charge.
