The Region Three Administration on Friday commissioned a solar system at the Caria Caria Health Centre, Essequibo River.

Regional Chairman Julius Faerber, at the opening ceremony, said the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development procured the system. He said the ministry also bore most of the cost for the installation.

According to a press release, Faerber said the community would benefit tremendously from the new system. He said it will “enhance the proper storage of vaccines and injections” since it would be used to power the fridge. Faerber said using the solar system would minimise the spoilage and damage to essential items.

The total cost for the three solar plates, and installation, was $799,000.

Meanwhile, residents have called for security measures to be put in place to safeguard the system, in the wake of a number of thefts that has been plaguing the community. Faerber gave assurances that the administration would take the necessary steps to secure all government buildings.
