Over 88,000 registration applications completed

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) completed 88, 480 applications for registration in its house-to-house campaign between January 7 and 31.

This was revealed at a one-day Appraisal and Monitoring Workshop which was organized by GECOM to evaluate status reports from registration officers from all 23 registration areas, the Commission said in a media release yesterday.

The workshop which was held at the Conference Hall of the Commission’s Secretariat last Friday focused on ascertaining the overall manner in which the house-to-house registration is being conducted.

After the workshop all of the registration officers assured that their participation in the exercise had “improved their individual and collective ability to conduct internal refresher training at the level of the registration areas as an ongoing exercise.”

GECOM said further that refresher training sessions are aimed at ensuring “efficient and accurate” completion of Application for Registration Forms by the registration field staff and to provide them with the expertise to treat with teething problems which might have been experienced since the exercise started.

Meanwhile, similar workshops are scheduled to take place on the first Friday of every month during the course of the house-to-house registration.

Resource persons at the workshop were Chief Election Officer Gocool Boodoo; Deputy Chief Election Officer Calvin Benn; Assistant Chief Election Officer Keith Lowenfield; Civic and Voter Education Manager Deolall Ramlall; Information Technology Manager Gavin Campbell; and Voter Registration Manager Beverley Critchlow.
