Man, 54, remanded over attempted murder of wife

A 54-year-old-man who allegedly stabbed his estranged wife about the body was on Monday remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle charged with attempted murder.

On January 31, at Commerce Street, Georgetown, Balram Sahideen allegedly attempted to murder his estranged wife Kemwattie Bragwana.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

According to the prosecution, the couple had not been on speaking terms for about four months. On January 31, Bragwana was at Commerce Street, when Sahideen allegedly approached her and demanded the things he had bought for her.

When she went to talk to him he reportedly took a knife from under his shirt and dealt her several stabs about the body.

Bragwana was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was admitted.

Sahideen is to return to court tomorrow for report, when the prosecution is to give an update on Bragwana’s condition.
