Ex-husband remanded over alleged abuse

A 49-year-old man who allegedly abused his ex-wife in a public place was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, charged with unlawful assault and using threatening behaviour.

Everton Cox of 162 Garnett Street, Newtown, Kitty pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault and guilty to the charge of using threatening behaviour.

The man’s ex-wife Elizabeth Cox became very emotional when explaining her story to the court. She said she had shared a very abusive relationship with her ex-husband and on the day in question, he assaulted her outside her attorney’s office and also threatened to kill her.

Cox was refused bail and the matter is to continue today in Court Two.
