Responding to a letter from leader of the People’s National Congress Reform, Robert Corbin on the mowing down of farmlands aback of Buxton, the Office of the President on Thursday said that President Bharrat Jagdeo remained unprepared to engage with Corbin unless his stated concerns are addressed properly.

Corbin wrote to Jagdeo on Tuesday outlining a number of concerns following moves by the administration to clear dense vegetation aback of Buxton and several other East Coast Demerara villages. Jagdeo had publicly stated that he would not discuss security matters with Corbin unless the Opposition Leader acknowledges that criminals were hiding out in Buxton.

The letter signed by Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon said that Corbin’s prior publication of the correspondence suggests another media gimmick to solicit support for its details. According to the letter released by OP yesterday, Jagdeo said that the observations Corbin had made in his letter are in the public domain and are currently being addressed by the competent authorities.
