Digicel outlet robbed

Two men who pretended to be customers yesterday afternoon staged a daring robbery at the Digicel outlet located next door to Texaco on Mandela Avenue, and carted off cellular phones and a quantity of cash.

When this newspaper arrived on the scene yesterday the outlet was already closed. However Stabroek News was informed by an eyewitness that the men, who both appeared to be in their early twenties, entered the location where a single staff member was on duty and threatened him. One of the bandits demanded money and placed a number of cellular phones which were on sale into a bag.

The building is located a stone’s thrown away from the East La Penitence Police station , but Stabroek News was told that the men took about four minutes to carry out the robbery, and dashed out of the building immediately it was over. By the time the police were alerted, the men had already made good their escape. The police are conducting investigations.
