Vanloads of policemen were dispatched to West Bank Demerara yesterday and were reportedly combing the Wales canefields after receiving information that criminal elements may be hiding out there, a police told Stabroek News last night.

The source said the robbery of a Patentia Family on Thursday night may have prompted the decision to search the canefields, but up to press time last night no unusual discovery had been made.

Residents also had told this newspaper that they had noticed the lawmen proceeding to the area but they too had heard nothing unusual.
