Joint Services ranks yesterday morning discovered the skeletal remains of what appeared to be a male of African descent floating in a swamp in the vicinity of Brusche Dam, Buxton, East Coast Demerara.

The police in a press release yesterday said the find had been made at about 10.30 am in a swamp located some 60 yards north of the Lamaha Conservancy.

The release said ranks had spotted a pair of three-quarter, navy denim pants with a leather belt and a Rastafarian beaded chain in red, black, green and yellow. According to the police the beads spelt out the name ‘Ishmael.’

A well-placed source told Stabroek News that after ranks noticed the pants, they lifted up the garment and saw the bones of what appeared to be a human being.

Up to press time last night no one had turned up at the Lyken Funeral Home to claim the remains as those of a family member.
