Man on second charge of assaulting minor

A 45-year-old man was remanded for the alleged indecent assault of a minor yesterday when he appeared before Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

David Paul is said to have indecently assaulted a 15-year-old girl between April 1 and April 30 last year. His lawyer Mohammed Zafar said that the accused who has an ongoing case in Court Six with the same virtual complainant for carnal knowledge had been arrested and charged for the same matter again.

Zafar said that he was amused that his client was being charged twice on the same count.

However, police prosecutor Denise Griffith said that was not the same case since the charges were filed on different dates and are two different matters.

Zafar said that his client was granted $100,000 bail on the first matter and he made an application for bail for the present case.

However the prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant could interfere with the VC. The magistrate ruled in favour of the prosecution and Paul has to return to court on April 18.
