Vryheid’s Lust fisherman latest road fatality

A 46-year-old cyclist became the latest road fatality after a collision with a bus on the Atlantic Gardens public road yesterday.

James Francis Raghubir, a fisherman of 52 Vryheid’s Lust north, was proceeding east on the southern side of the road when he allegedly swerved his cycle into the path of a bus heading east on the northern side of the road. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, a police press release said.

When Stabroek News visited the man’s home his wife Omawattie Raghubir said that he left home to take some shrimp for a friend at Atlantic Gardens. She said she heard that he had been knocked down but by the time relatives arrived at the hospital he had already died.

Omawattie said villagers told her that the bus that hit her husband had been speeding. She said the bicycle was completely destroyed. Raghubir also leaves to mourn his six children and three grandchildren.

The driver of the bus is in police custody.
