Driver, son robbed at Uitvlugt

Two men are in police custody after they allegedly attacked and robbed a bus driver and his son at Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara on Saturday.

Police reported that at about half past midnight on Saturday mini-bus driver Azeem Hack of Anna Catherina, WCD, and his son Reiaad Hack were attacked and robbed by two men at Uitvlugt, WCD.

Azeem Hack, of Anna Catherina WCD, was en route to Parika from Georgetown with a number of passengers when the two men requested to get off at Uitvlugt.

Police said that upon stopping the vehicle, the two men confronted Hack and his son, who was the conductor, and demanded cash while threatening to shoot them if they did not comply. According to the Police, the driver and conductor handed over $7,000 to the men who then escaped.

Police said that later, the victims saw the two perpetrators walking along the public road at Stewartville, WCD. They informed the Police whose quick response led to the apprehension of the men and the recovery of the stolen cash. Charges will be laid shortly, Police said.
